The oil is extracted from a small shrub called Juniperous communis. The plant grows to a height of about 10 meters. Commercially it is grown to a height of about 2 meters. Oil is extracted from the blue/black berries, the needle like leaves and also the wood. But oil extracted from the berries is mostly sold commercially, as this is the superior quality oil. The oil is extracted using steam distillation process.
